Freely admit Wal-Mart getting pissy about a tax break or something and pulling out beyond my fair city's limits has probably kept me sheltered from The Horror.
Jesus. Last Walmart I was in, in my mom's part of the world, had one shelf of last-6-months releases and a giant basket of clearance to dig through, like we're all fishmongers. & don't tell me, let me guess how many of those books were copies of Chicken Soup for the Christo-fascist's Soul.
Shout-out to Prey (no, not that one) on the bottom shelf - a 2007 South African survival horror movie about a woman and her kids trapped in a car by man eating lions. Based on the same Tsavo Man-eaters of 1898 that inspired Bwana Devil & The Ghost and the Darkness - two other, better movies.
I count five Hallmark Xmas movies, three Jaws rip-offs, two "Nic Cage still paying down his back taxes" projects, two killer clown things & one Alice in Wonderland-themed slasher. Tag yourself. I'm Jurassic Triangle.
I live in the SF Bay Area (South Bay), and physical movie media is essentially gone. I *think* Walmart still has a bit. But Target 100% pulled out. They don't even stock the A-list new stuff. "Media" section is mostly Taylor Swift vinyl, a bit of other vinyl. No CD or DVD/BD/4K.

While the huge amount of books and vinyl records taking up that space is still something, it's still pretty dismal to see.
