As one of your constiuents, I agree completely. California is falling behind in everything we do - from building housing to clean energy to high speed rail - because we've let our permitting system be abused by NIMBYs. Let's show the world that California is still the world's most dynamic economy!

It's very exciting to see a democrat take this issue on. We should feel comfortable picking winners and losers here. Infill housing projects, bike infrastructure, clean energy, and public transit should be made streamlined. Highway expansions should not.

Just reviewed report and agree on problem statement and need to change. I know this is hard but are there more specifics on next steps we should start with. For example, can we do away with each city's permitting and go county-wide? On the ground its toughfiguring out between OAK and BERK...ugh.

I appreciate the effort. I do not think, however, that it will be possible to craft legislation that says "OK" to "good projects" and "No" to "bad projects" and thus, if you really want success, you may have to actually allow more of every type of project.

This is good but how about a cap on housing sale prices & the number of properties large real estate investors can buy up? Seems that's a big part of the problem, there's probably enough housing but too many properties sit empty

Keep sensible regulations to stop builders from trampling the environment or ruining neighborhoods. BUT drastically & quickly streamline the permit process & drop silly, outdated rules. Let's turn empty commercial buildings into residential housing & spaces that people need & will put to good use.
