Thanks @buffywicks.bsky.social for coming out to support Berkeley’s proposed EMBER program to improve our wildfire resilience. @adenaishii.bsky.social, Berkeley Fire Chief Sprague and Asst Chief Arnold, and our teams look forward to working with you to make Berkeley and the East Bay fire safe!

Permitting reform: sexy? Not so much. Important? Crucially. Red tape trips up so many critical housing, transportation, renewable energy & climate resilience projects — and we can fix this. Here I talk to my colleagues about why it’s so important that we do. www.youtube.com/shorts/v17C4...

2025 is the Year of California "Permitting Reform," says @buffywicks.bsky.social . California lawmakers in both chambers are hammering out 20 bills to rejigger the approval process for housing projects. calmatters.org/housing/2025...

If we’re serious about making CA more affordable, sustainable & resilient, we must make it easier to build housing, clean energy, transit & climate projects. Our report makes it clear: the system isn’t working, & it's on us to fix it. More via @frombenc.bsky.social calmatters.org/housing/2025...

I feel ya, sister. We do it for our kids, and sometimes *with* our kids. But make no mistake about it, moms get it done 💪

CA’s teacher shortage is fueled by our housing crisis. When educators can’t afford to live in the communities they serve, our kids pay the price. AB 1021 will cut red tape so school districts can build workforce housing for staff & give them the stability they deserve. edsource.org/updates/prop...

In California, the rent is too damn high. Home ownership is too damn hard. As long as I’m in the Assembly, I’ll fight like hell to lower rents, drive down the cost of homes, and build more housing. Here’s an update on what we’re doing this week to get there: youtube.com/shorts/25pHd...

While DC descends into chaos, we’re staying focused on what matters: making CA more affordable. We’re taking on big challenges, rejecting the status quo & fighting Trump’s agenda every step of the way. With some bill deadlines coming up, here's *some* of what we’re working on:

The votes I took today represent something bigger than politics – they’re about standing up for the Constitution, for the Rule of Law, and for our most vulnerable communities.

Cecile Richards was a giant. When I was growing up in national politics, she was the one we all looked up to. Strong, graceful and no nonsense, she had a spine of steel and didn’t suffer fools. Her impact was profound — she showed generations of women how to lead in the face of adversity.

I commend Governor Newsom for taking swift action to streamline rebuilding efforts. Thousands of families who have lost everything should not be subjected to bureaucratic red tape, normally taking years, in their effort to rebuild their lives.

I understand Gov. Newsom had to make some difficult decisions with a budget constrained by tough economic conditions & federal uncertainty. Within those realities, there are proposals I fully support & others where I see opportunities to better meet the needs of Californians.

Heartbroken and horrified by the LA fires & the devastating destruction left in their wake. Carrying in my thoughts those who have lost their homes, and the communities facing unimaginable loss.

Yesterday we broke ground on Legacy Court in North Richmond — a vital project over two decades in the making. With affordable homes for families and vulnerable neighbors, this is what community investment looks like. Grateful to CHDC, Eden Housing & all who made it possible.

Today we celebrated the grand reopening of Turning Point transitional housing, & a new chapter for the vital program. Now part of Larkin Street Youth Services, its impact will expand to provide essential resources & opportunities for unhoused youth in the East Bay. Congratulations on this milestone!

Walking tour w/Asm. Haney’s Select Committee on Downtown Recovery provided a great opportunity to hear directly from Berkeley business owners & arts district leaders. Despite real challenges, they're a shining example of what's possible when everyone works together to keep our downtown thriving.

Today I had the honor of being sworn into America’s most diverse legislature, w/a record number of women serving. I couldn’t be prouder to have my daughters in the Capitol to witness such an inclusive & representative democracy — a powerful reminder that progress is possible.
