I love an Oxford comma. I thought that baby Romy was an unusual name for a dog. Also it seems that Lil Nas X and Sir Elton John shared a bill on the Pyramid Stage. If only there had been some way to make things clearer. 🤔
(it’s an AP Style Guide vs Chicago Manual of Style issue, we come from different editorial backgrounds—also I learned to edit in Hong Kong and the UK which is pretty universally pro Oxford comma)
Serial comma more used in US than UK (56% v 25% & 19% don't know https://yougov.co.uk/society/articles/43976-where-do-britons-stand-classic-grammar-debates for people in general). Economist Style Guide "Most American writers and publishers use the serial comma; most British writers and publishers use the serial comma only when necessary to avoid ambiguity..."
Not only am I pro-Oxford comma, I despair at the fact that most social media sites won’t let me use italics. Forcing me to put book and movie titles in quotation marks is against the Geneva Conventions, I’m pretty sure.
