Texas has over 20,000 MW (megawatts) of solar, wind, and storage capacity coming online in 2025 with zero subsidy.
Texas has ~200 MW of natural gas generation capacity coming online in 2025. There is a $5 bn state subsidy for natural gas.

Texas is trying to get rid of that this legislative session, though. They’ve also introduced legislation to make new work more difficult, permitting-wise.
Nuclear output, when running at absolute best can’t effectively shift fast enough with changes in demand due to temperatures/otherwise
Meaning, they are commonly unable to reduce or increase output without having major issue
They like to just keep slow and steady
It seems very very very stupid.
The trick would be sorting how to get the build baby build while interconnecting and managing household prices
It’s a good deal overall, ideally never burn gas but have the ability to do so
It’s a very good model
