One way to win the economic competition with China would be to make apps that don't suck shit. Have you considered that

The Philips Hue app got a 100% cross-platform replacement and it's just junky as hell.
but the companies don't care about the user experience at all. They just want incrementally lower labor/maintenance costs
In maturity, incumbents don't have to do any of that. They'll feed you garbage and you will like it. What are you gonna do? You already bought the bulbs, you already bought the speakers.
The cost of fully native apps is exorbitant
quality of user experience is not valued. It's possible to get quality from cross-platform frameworks but it takes longer and that's one of the tradeoffs of using them
these guys just want a bit more marrow out the bones
