My Sudeten Czech mom was 16 when Hitler took over her homeland. She ended up in forced labor and in a German prison for a few months. Thank goodness she spoke German perfectly. In Sept 1945 she escaped from the Russian occupied zone a few days after the Russians kidnapped her 17 yr old sister.
