YESSSS I love what Bob Ross said "talent is pursued interest! Anything you can practice you can do."
Love will carry you when nothing else will. That fun is vital.

i think half of "talent" is just a person happening to have fun doing whatever it is they're supposedly talented at, and not hating it. i was "talented" at art at age 3 but if i'd stopped drawing at age 3 because i found it tedious or unrewarding, i'd probably pretty much draw like a 3-year-old now

I did a TikTok ramble some time ago about aptitude. The gist is that aptitude doesn't make the work any easier. Art is as hard for people with aptitude as it is for anybody else. The difference is, at the end, you feel that your time was well spent.
So the fun is easier to find.
I also think a lot of genius is *other people affirming you are a genius*
Also this is, like, my whole Problem, and I love the way you're articulating it here.
Like you have to make the work knowing it's full of flaws and finish it and put it out anyway. Terrifying!
I can read the finished book. I can NEVER read the "perfect" book that lives only in your mind.
Real and flawed beats imagined and perfect EVERY TIME.
Then I went to art school and was blown out of the water.
It got me down at first-- but I really LOVE ART, so I kept going and practicing and lo and behold, I improved!
