Sadly, some purveyors of lemon-puffs (McVities, which aren't cheap; Borlands) don't glaze the outer layers, making them more akin to a water biscuit. Maliban (found in some pound shops) aren't bad.

One teatime favourite (but not in this case ‘biscuits’) that I’ve noticed as being very much the same as it was at my Gran’s house for tea sixty years ago is Heinz Sandwich Spread!
Seemingly the same texture, same ingredients and tastes just the same!

I’ve mentioned this before I think but Harry Wingfield shows a sublime grasp of the knack of rendering different surface textures (the jam, the puff-biscuit, the digestive biscuit, the shiny chocolate) with deft use of the one same medium.
