The question was not “misunderstood” @ianhanomansing.bsky.social. It was wrong. Just admit it and move on. Every time you belittle people for taking you to task you undermine your alleged intent. This is serious. Be serious.

One thing that strikes me: the great store @ianhanomansing.bsky.social seems to set on an NPR simulcast -- as if that's something Canadians dearly yearn for.
Focusing on the 51st-state parody of a sideshow, rather than on the wholesale destruction of institutions and safeguards, is shameful.
And there it is again. “Threat or comment, depending on your perspective.” No. The international rules are clear. You do not “muse” about annexing a country. It is, by definition, a threat. So disgusted with this.
Mmhmm…..kinda like a gangster is just “trolling for funzees” when he implies your corner store might accidentally burn down if you don’t pay the protection fee.
Who exactly is the US protecting Canada from ?
The only clear and present danger I can see…..is the US.
Particularly with ruinous tariffs being used to press the point.
Ugh.
And now we have the risks created by the firing of the JAGS, the last line of defence on illegal actions, and the declaration of 7 cartels/criminal organizations which permits firing into other territories.
This is why people are suspicious of you now, @ianhanomansing.bsky.social. You keep strawmanning the objections and ignoring the substance of the criticism. It does not show any self-awareness or integrity. The objection was the framing. Not the topic. Stop pretending otherwise.
This should be embarrassing for Mr Hanomansing but instead his hubris gets in the way of any semblance of journalistic integrity. I’m just completely disgusted.
And there is John doing a good job of articulating the issue: what Trump is doing is a violation of international law and norms. And you, of course, blew him off. Too “heady” for your simplistic slopfest, I guess.
My charitable take on this: I think @ianhanomansing.bsky.social believes good will is sufficient. Research, expertise, and accuracy are not as important as good intentions. He means no harm so, therefore, everyone should calm down.
No. Good prep is crucial with such a sensitive topic. Facts matter.
oleary i need get some stories on him out i know personally from when he owned the usa learning place
and was recruiting hackers to go work for it
hes just a crook with a tie
that was back in 98 when i was 1st year at college literally teacing my computer classes causes teachers didnt know half as much as me
and i had nations like Belize try and pay me to go make shit for them (never went )
etc
So much airtime for O’Leary to stump for self-serving, partisan, libertarian BS. So much time for a guy who doesn’t even understand our system. At all. He’s treating the public good as a “business opportunity.” Such a load of bullshit.
He didn’t challenge or fact-check a single thing O’Leary said except to point out our currency is not the “Trudeau peso”. So cringeworthy. And when John points out the threat of annexation is a violation of international law, his only response was “yeah, ok, thanks for the call”. I mean WTF?😳
One more “nice” thing to say: a lot of compassionate people from both sides of the border have been calling in and expressing their horror. Thank goodness. And this was always the value of this show. But it happened in spite of the networks organizing this show, not because they did a good job.
You’re giving him way too much credit. He’s been awful for years. This show demonstrates his continual disdain for the taxpayers that pay his salary and his interest in self-promotion and exposure in the US market. That’s it. He’s no Canadian. I mean come on…O’Leary?! WTF was he doing on the show
I think many journalists, columnists & pundits are used to deciding what to talk about & how to do it. When mistakes or biases are called out, they go on the defensive. They don’t seem to understand that lots of us see the truth & know what’s happening. We are not dumb & expect better.
Some of us have been quite suspicious since Ian refuses to engage with any education about how Canada could be improving indoor air quality to slow the spread of disease. Strangely incurious for a journalist.
I’m so disappointed in him. I’ve always liked him but now I’m questioning if he’s always been this and I somehow missed it. Makes me question everything I’ve ever thought of him.
There must be a better strategy to respond to or ignore this game show/host joker. He puts all these carrots out to distract from reality then gets on Fox and laughs because so many bought it! We say flat out, stop trying to be Putin and deal with the price of eggs!
Yeah. Sadly. With some spots of sunshine brought by the callers, the majority of whom (from both sides of the border) were rightly horrified at the talk of annexation.
Can't say I'm surprised. It's deplorable that the went ahead with this. I hope there are consequences. Thanks for suffering through it so we didn't have to.
He did the same with anyone presenting evidence about the harms of COVID and importance of mitigations. Completely dismissed critics, refused to engage with any experts. He treats the public who pay his salary like 💩. #CrossCountryFuckUp

Dots to connect…
Glad he managed to finish on that note

He is not an evil human….but he does possess a tremendous lack of humility and self-reflection.

the problem.
Fascism is always a
business opportunity for rich men to profit from being quislings. That's how fascism works.
But no one asked him, "opportunity for whom?"

To you, it is a dangerous threat. The only question is how committed he is to stabbing you.
