Some of us try our best, but one of my neighbours was out with a kitchen knife the other day removing them one by one.
Some years ago I spent 2 days in hospital. I came home to find the other neighbour had 'done me a favour' and scraped all the moss off MY stone wall with a hoe!
But I'm the oddball!
Aye, it's a sair fecht, as they say North of Hadrian's Wall. If someone had scraped the moss of my wall, they'd be wondering where their hoe went and why they couldn't sit down....
Police Scotland have attended on related matters several times - the possibility of my arrest has been raised for 'putting my neighbours in a state of fear and alarm' for photographing them as they've interfered with my property - after previously telling me I needed photos for evidence!
I've a 2-acre garden designed for wildlife - none of my trees overhang or remove other's sunlight. I'm up against a culture of tidiness - I don't 'manage my garden in a traditionally-accepted manner', apparently.
They look stunning when driving around. Luckily a lot of councils are now just ‘picture framing’ verges (cutting around edges and signage only) and only cutting the whole thing in the autumn. More of that please!

I have always loved dandelions. When i was little I used to collect bunches for my mother and she always put them in water in empty jam jars. Obviously, hundreds were left for the bees and other insects, and there were huge numbers of insects then.
Really good year for all plants this spring in Pembrokeshire. But walking past many the other day, became aware of the sparseness of pollinators.
Not zero, the occasional bee or hoverfly, but noticeable how few there were. Warmer days and a very dry spring (raining today!).
I've noticed far more inverts (pollinators included) over the past couple of weeks in Pembs than I did during the previous couple of years at this time. (Excluding today's rain which I'm grateful for, the streams having been looking a little shallow and muddy areas hard & rutted). But it's relative.
We used to live at the dead end of a single track road and it was covered in dandelions. It was lovely and you’d see the ‘fairies’ flying by the windows. I learned to embrace them as they seeded all over my garden!
I’ll also add that our road was tree-lined with mixed mature trees. A highland rail line ran parallel to it and they cut down loads of those trees. They also went too far and stopped when I complained. The place was decimated
I spoke a day too soon! The cuttermen came this afternoon & destroyed all in their path. Despair multiplies year on year. At least my jungle provides, but its's so little. Don't understand "tidy" when we are so good at litter. Gives cause to the volunteer picker uppers I suppose.
That looks absolutely stunning. I'm pleased to say York council haven't sent the cuttermen out yet but many verges have had serious short back & sides by home owners. Must keep it tidy...

(TBH nowadays I let the dandy’s have a fair run before I dig em up to give the insects some nutrition at a lean time)
