Tomorrow is voting day in Germany. I will also host a little Repair Cafė. I have no time for this, like you, but it is important what we do. It takes a little effort to stay a democrat, invest. It's much less effort than to fight it out of the ruins again.

I've always been pleased to have hornets nesting in the (outside) wall of my home office. I was disappointed when they didn't last year, though it turned out they'd nested in the opposite end of the building. But far fewer of them, which was worrying. Sound scary but usually more docile than wasps.

Now completed around two thirds of first (and longest) hedge I'm hoping to lay before spring is sprung. The end feels within sight on this hedge but second hedge is depriving my largest pond of light, so keen to do get that done too. #HedgeLaying #Drone #Photo

2 of 4 large goat willows I hit while laying hedge today. Had to coppice, as in direct line. Becoming bit of a bind. Love Goat Willow: fast growing, great for wildlife. But surely the raison d'etre of a "pioneer species" is to colonise non-wooded areas - not plant yourself in a row of 600 trees!

My daughter sent me the video of Chris Kluwe speaking. So well put and so Courageous. If you haven't seen the video just search his name.

Excellent discussion about woodchip in the garden. Dispels a few myths and makes some good suggestions on ways to use it besides mulch. I have a largish petrol chipper, but if you don't and have space to store the source material then it's time saving to hire one occasionally.

Great podcast episode of #RootsAndAll on #SilvoHorticulture with benraskin.bsky.social who literally wrote the book on it (as well as 'The Woodchip Handbook'). Short & Sweet. Always happy to hear practical multistory #intercropping tips. #birthdaybooklist shorturl.at/cE0M3

The Hazel catkins are emerging. I'll need to get cracking with my hedge laying! (Both photos are full colour - honest!) #photography #nature #trees

Don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd! #photography #nature #flowers

It's still a bit damp out there! #photography #nature #flowers

I think the pondweed and moss in our garden pond are making a break for freedom! #photography #nature #moss #pond #water

... so it's been a while since we used our family picnic table in the wildlife area. I think it's starting to return to nature! #photography #nature #moss

Another reminder that _they_ are not animals. _We_ are animals. So many of our emotions and behaviours are now known to be shared by a far wider variety of species than we previously imagined. Let's show them some empathy.

As Natalie says the chainsaw symbolism is apt and tragic. I have found chainsaws useful and time-saving but I frequently wish they didn't exist. They let people destroy life that's survived beyond our lifetimes, with barely a moment's thought.
