Thank you for teaching me something today. Now another reason for (as much as I'd love to) me to NEVER visit a zoo of any kind. I know good happens but I feel the bad outweighs exponentially.
as someone who has worked in a zoo and loved it, i do understand this opinion! statistically, fewer than 10% of US zoos are accredited by the AZA, which sets the gold standard for zoo ethics. personally, i would say feel comfortable visiting one of them, but in a perfect world we would have no zoos
i find the ethical ones, like the one i worked at, to be a somewhat necessary institution, but not a good one. they exist to take care of animals born in captivity or rescued from the wild, not to unnecessarily imprison, while also raising money and awareness for conservation
all this long ranting aside though, i too really wish all animals could live free in the wild with no unnecessary human interference. i appreciate your response and have a great day : )

Solutions: Stop denying FACTS like finite space & natural resources & and teach children to live sustainably. Stop poisoning our habitat. For the religious, what could be a greater sin than destroying Eden: all living plants & sentient beings we were entrusted to protect on this planet?
White is bad. That genetic mutation also causes them to be unable to see as well, so they cannot hunt or stay safe. Let’s not be egotistical and want to ‘see something pretty’. Let nature be nature.
