I think your word choice was fine. The 1973 SCOTUS ruled (in Roe v. Wade) that states’ banning of abortion violated a woman’s right to privacy, which the 14th Amendment forbids. A SCOTUS ruling *should* be settled law, and like you said, the six traitors lied when they said they thought that too.
They had a supermajority for 72 working days *and*, in what could only be a twist to anyone not alive today or then, not all Democrats in the Senate were pro-choice - and they needed all 60 votes there.

Yeah, well, one of his big campaign promises in 2007 was that the first thing he would do if he was elected was codify Roe but once he had the opportunity, he weasled out of it by saying that he didn't feel it was a priority anymore bc Roe was not in any danger..which is complete bullshit
