Sadly I have received a rejection with my game collaboration because my cute style can't be "taken seriously". Does the fact that I create in a simple cute style make me seem less? π

I think that that interaction just proves that the individual is not your target audience. While some people don't take cute games "seriously", the people whose favorite games ARE cute and cozy games will take it seriously and will love it!
Their loss!!!
Cute and simple does not mean it's not serious!! I see how much time and love you put into your work and you seem SO serious and passionate! β‘
I'm so sorry they rejected you over something so silly.
I LOVE simple and cute styles, so to me its MORE not less!
There are a lot of fantastic comments already but cuteness is a style. It should be taken seriously, look at how popular Animal Crossing is or Sanrio (as someone mentioned). They don't know anything. Maybe for them they saw it wasn't a fit for them, but don't you dare give up
You're not less for creating in a cute art style. Many recognized artists have cutesy art styles, but their works are still taken seriously. It sounds like whoever rejected you was just a bad fit for you, yeah? You'll find the right audience.
nope! thats like the people who say wind waker isn't a good zelda game simply based on style, games are more than just their visual feel or vibe and shouldn't be judged on that alone!!
i played ur demo and i honestly thought the style and gameplay were a wonderful pairing :)
As an artist that draws cute stuff I got this a lot in art college and it kinda seems like something a lot of normies think. Cute art is my life though and i love your game. Cute art should be appreciated more
Simple and cute doesnβt make any creator less! Tailside is an amazing cute and cozy game and those who donβt appreciate it should take a second look!
I have been gaming for about 45 years. Since games on cassettes.
I have never enjoyed playing βcute styleβ games as much as I do these days, and they are a vital and relevant part of gaming ecosystem. All of us who play games to just play games would be much poorer without them.
Ehm... I though everyone took cute games seriously.. because one thing we know is that cute games are popular. I'd not take it to heart, and just think they were not the right people to collab with at all!
β¦do they not realize people LIKE cute things?? That people want to BUY cute things?? Sounds like you dodged a bullet if they think cute is bad. Keep designing the way you do!
Everyone will have an opinion. If they don't see the value in the work they do, then they clearly are not meant for the project or the target audience. Please don't let them discourage you from the amazing work you are doing. Those of us who LOVE your game will be here to keep encouraging you!
I'm sorry you went through that and honestly that person lacks pop culture and art knowledge (in my opinion), because there are a LOT of examples of "cute" style art being used for very serious and even dark narratives and it works beautifully.
Off the top of my mind I'm thinking of WALL-E...
