Definitely won’t fix the set piece issues. But a lot of their issues last year stemmed from breakdowns higher up the pitch & the ease w/which teams could play through their midfield, especially in transition.
Yes!! A lot of the takes about JDM being a bad defender early in the season needed to rewind the tape a bit further and see that it was mistakes up the pitch in possession and positioning that constantly left defenders in the lurch.
Man... I guess some movement is better than nothing but you're much more positive than I. Kelsy couldn't get on the field despite FWD being a mess for Cincinnati last year. And that defense is going to need a lot more than a single signing to turn it around.
Having a DM in the prime of his career to partner Ayala as the shield in front of the backline should do a lot to prevent defensive issues. Do other things need to change? Absolutely, but Ortiz looks like a shrewd pickup from a club that’s a talent factory in Ecuador. #RCTID
As for Kelsy, the jury’s still out. Young forwards are almost always inconsistent, but he’s shown he can produce in MLS. He also offers something different in terms of a physical outlet the team hasn’t had in years at striker. He’ll help on set-pieces and to relieve opposition pressure. #RCTID
Okay... pretty convincing. Certainly we needed a DM with Chara finally appearing mortal. I think it's fair to remain sceptical of this team and it's track record around young players, forwards in particular. I'm STILL mad about how Jebo was treated.
