We need to get more bold, including:
1. Getting rid of SDCs & IZ
2. Pass the Eastside for All: allow four stories and corner stores by right across the Eastside
3. Allow Single-stair buildings by right
4. Remove bottle drops city wide (to stop the money that addicts use)
cutting off a reliable income source to an addict doesn’t do anything to help them get better or stop doing drugs. It just makes them more likely to turn to crime to get their drugs
Eliminating bottle drop centers in the central city is an awful idea. It takes away a vital income source for all sorts of people, including drug users, families, working folks. Improvements can be made to the actual collection process for folks with concerns.
Multnomah County's programs are underfunded, and will ultimately fall apart b/c of Trump & R's gutting Medicaid. State likely won't have the ability to backfill.
PDX is boned if we don't even do the basics of removing the bottle drops. Thousands more addicts will be on our streets.
I think your assessment of the DOGE/GOP cuts is correct, in that these cuts are likely to increase evictions and homelessness, and to give the city, county, and state fewer resources with which to address the problem. The crisis will explode, making your framing exponentially more irresponsible

Go out to 122nd and Glisan and ask the neighbors: what you think of the Bottle Drop?
The camping and crime is the roof b/c of the addicts at the Bottle Drop. It needs to go.

I wish that weren’t the case, but that’s just the truth.
