I like working with publishers for the extra support, especially as I'm learning lots of new stuff as I go.
I know lots of folks who self-publish and do great, just don't think I'm ready for that yet.
A seemingly innocuous question but, I will be judging your answer. :P
Do you have any tips for young students trying to get started?
If they have a proven track record in a directly relatable area, like they'd written a comic say, then that might help.
It's a very competitive area so I'd defo recommend the former option tho.
Cup of coffee after that.
Peppermint tea for the rest of the day unless I'm flagging. π
You'll might find you need less than you think and you can always add more once you've proven there is a need.
Are you currently working on a new game?
Have you played A Highland Song by @inklestudios.bsky.social yet?
I'm currently wrapping up work on Mythwrecked, it's my second indie game after RΓΆki and will be out later this year.
I have played Highland Song, as well as most of the other Inkle games!
I actually worked with Joe and Jon at Sony, nice chaps!
Iβd prefer the smallest text (e.g. on the map screen) to be larger, but itβs still readable to me. π
What is your human, personal approach to this decision?
What keeps you...doing your stuff...on bad days?
It's a personal expression and the struggle to create it is the whole point.
If you remove that process, of creating something yourself, from your own skills it becomes...soulless and pointless.
A few things that I find that are helpful are:-
- Where a hat when you are working and remove it when you log off (sounds silly but reinforces work mode or play mode).
- Cook dinner after clocking off. It's a simple task but you have to focus on it and it helps my brain transition
Think that's about it off the top of my head.
Funnily enough I have been walking tons bc of pokemon go & preparing most of my own meals the past few months and the improvement in mental health is so big!
- Mapo Tofu (with veggie mince)
- Spanakopita (Greek spinach pie)
- Self-saucing lemon pasta
- Quick coconut dal
If you're a dal guy I can rec this recipe, put red onions in instead. It goes hard.

Making a good game is not enough, you need to make sure people are aware of it.
Definitely learnt a lot in that area since going indie ππ»
Tbh I feel like you do such a great job of utilizing social media to bring awareness to not just your own projects but otherβs projects as well.
I definitely see you as a leader in the industry for that very reason.
