He took the difficult road to appease the GOP, who took it to SCOTUS, which is filled with fascists, and he rolled over because he wants money more than votes. I have $75k in student debt and have been hamstrung at every turn by the public service act. Now I make too much to get relief.

When I was making less than $22k a year, there were NO programs for me and I had to defer payments, thus negating my chance to qualify for the PSFL. There are millions of me out there. You going so hard for this skim milk answer to a festering national wound is being a puppet for The Fat Cats (R).

But part of what rules change did was give retroactive credit for pslf even during pandemic deferment. The pslf program was utterly fucked for years and now actually works.

No, it doesn’t work well. I’m here to tell you - my 17 years in nonprofit still do not count because I didn’t make enough payments and now I make too much to qualify. It’s fine for me in the grand scheme, but it’s a shit solution.

Pslf is income agnostic. the changes to make it retroactive go back to the program’s initiation in 2007. So if np work was done with qualifying org u should be able to get credit for those payments. There are bureaucratic hurdles but it’s really just a form and a sig from old employer.

Also, your response smacks of educlassism. You think all ppl who have college debt graduated and got fancy degrees? For profit schools gave cosmetology students overpriced loans and many of those folks are super vulnerable. That’s just one example. Other people had to drop out. Still have debt.

they've been going with alternate routes for debt forgiveness that have been more under the radar (and still effective) but the court hamstrung his power to just erase debt the way everyone said he should. i don't know what doing it over again would accomplish, they'd just strike it down again lol

I am all for it if it’s possible, but I agree, politicians would bring suit and I don’t see scotus ruling differently. What we have instead is a policy that is allowed under current law and effectively does erase debt for poor ppl and substantially reduce it for middle to high income earners.
