Trump’s Ukraine policy is based on fabricated numbers ($350bn). His Russia policy is based on fabricated numbers (majority support for Russia in occupied territory). Why are we surprised that his trade policy is also based on fabricated numbers?

Probably since birth, Trump lies as soon as he opens his mouth. That much should be known. Maybe at last the olde-worlde hangers-on finally realise that postmodernism, that social constructivism, has won.
Not surprised that he fabricated numbers. But somewhat numbed that anyone takes his numbers seriously.
(Just for context & if anyone cares, tonight's news here in Germany repeatedly used the word "arbitrary" in describing the numbers. Arbitrary, arbitrary, arbitrary.)
The numbers come from trade statistics. They are simply used thoughtlessly. 10% is applied to all small balance differences, even positive ones.
The government is beyond idiotic.

The surprise is that the numbers are real, not that they are misrepresented.
