I texted the man from the tree company that messaged me this morning to confirm I wanted chips and logs and told him that he doesn't have to wait to see a ChipDrop request from me, that they can drop here any time. He said he'll hit me up every time they're working in the area!
I have 4.5 acres and the neighbor has 5, 2 of which are suitable for spreading wood chips on the ground. So we'll take them until we can spread 6 inches of wood chips across 6.5 acres in addition to the garden mulching and making compost with it.
Thats awesome! I need to look into getting a situation like that set up around here, my township is too small to have a municipal leaf/woodchip type collective program. Wish I could convince the cattle farmers to give me their manure 😖
After growing up ranching, I'd bet if you knocked on a door and offered to shovel out their barn or "the lot", they'd be more than happy to let you. But unless they have a front end loader, you're gonna shovel. And need a way to haul it yourself.
We have access to a ton (literally) of horse shit and flake wood chips. But no way to haul it, so it's not likely we can get it without the expense of renting a truck and trailer. I *really* need to get my old diesel truck running after sitting idle for 10 years.
