That sounds like a nightmare
Thankfully there are still some good headphones out there that work well. I recently bought some planar magnets I'm very happy with even if they need some extra to drive

yeah I just assumed buying "high quality" headphones would be a good call but I am so over things trying to be "smart". I just want good headphones that do passthrough aux audio really well and I didn't account for that properly I guess, lol

I've enjoyed Sony XM3 and XM5 headphones over many years (still using my XM3s at work regularly). They have a good battery life, still have a mini jack, and passthrough works well. I haven't tried listening while charging personally.

yeah if they don't need to be charged for passthrough then I don't care about charging while listening. The issue with these ones is passthrough only works if they're charged which is very annoying for headphones that sit on my desk 90% of the time haha

Guess I've never allowed mine to run out of juice... I've never actually attempted to listen on my headphones when they run out of battery.

I've been using Beyerdynamic headphones for a few years and I've enjoyed them. My only complaint is they get uncomfortable to wear for long periods, but I have yet to find over the ear headphones that don't do that

Take a look at the AKG K240 - been my standby headphone for audio work since the mid 2000s. Wonderfully low tech, semi-open ear design so it lets in outside sound quite well if that’s what you’re looking for.
