It feels a lot like the Pixel Tablet in the way that it tries to smoosh together the Android and Chrome(cast) ecosystems, in a way that is sometimes confusing.
Chromecast made sense to me like a web browser. I have apps on my smart TV, and for everything else there's Chromecast.
Chromecast wasn't perfect but it was simple and it (usually) worked.
With the Google TV experience I now have three versions of every app on my TV:
1. The Smart TV's own app
2. The Android app
3. The Google Cast Web Receiver
Comments
- Combined "continue watching" and "watchlist" across multiple services
- Search across services
- Nice remote control
Dislike:
- Android, replacing the UI of my TV
- Another remote control
- Google deciding what to recommend to me

I may send it back.
