Grey Street is looking fabulous. #Newcastle #GrimUpNorth

Embedding third-party web content into your app (e.g. via iframes) can sometimes degrade the user experience. If this sounds familiar, we'd love your feedback on a new proposal to control the perf of embedded iframes or webviews:

I've been trying the new Google TV Streamer as a replacement for Chromecast. 🧵

Wow, these voice models are getting crazy good. Freaking me out a little. Probably doesn't help that I'm currently watching Cassandra on Netflix. (via @travisstreet.com) www.sesame.com/research/cro...

PSA: If you factory reset an original Chromecast you can now no longer configure it from any modern Android device. Or the Android emulator. Your previously excellent streaming device is now a brick, but doesn't even make a good paperweight.

Good tip, @boredpanda.com.

I just tried to use WhatsApp on a KaiOS phone and discovered that it's no longer supported as of this month. https://www.techadvisor.com/article/2524806/whatsapp-will-soon-stop-working-on-millions-of-phones.html History tell us this is bad news for #KaiOS 😔

I have decided that X is Twitter's porn star name and shouldn't be used in polite company.

I'm currently using a Pixel 4a phone again because my Pixel 7a needs a repair and I'm finding I much prefer it to the 7a. Particularly the size, camera and screen. Did the Pixel peak?

So much for getting rid of the bots. All my Twitter notifications are from spam accounts. It's becoming unusable. Thank goodness there are alternatives.

Openvibe is kind of cool. "All decentralized social networks, single timeline". #Mastodon #Bluesky #Threads #Nostr https://openvibe.social/

** It's happening!! ** We managed to convince Google to open source PebbleOS. Took a while, but they just did it today! github.com/google/pebble With that, we're bringing Pebble back! I blogged about it - ericmigi.com/blog/why-wer...

Pondering the irony that restricting the flow of Nvidia chips to China forced the Chinese to innovate and do more with less, thereby undercutting Silicon Valley and causing the US stock market to shit a $1tn brick. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0qw7z2v1pgo

Off-site backup anyone? Not sure I'm completely sold on the environmental benefits though...

Recently I keep coming across the term "homelab", meaning a computer you use to self-host applications and experiment with technology in your home. Does this mean home servers are cool again? I've been doing that for over twenty years...

Every time I apply for an innovation grant I vow to never do it again. And yet here I am, back again, writing thousands of words and jumping through hoops to try to convince strangers to pay me to keep doing what I'm doing. There's no such thing as free money. #Startup #Funding

Trump (trʌmp). Verb. British slang, meaning to expel intestinal gas through the anus. Musk (mʌsk). Noun. A strong-smelling glandular secretion. From the sanskrit mushká meaning scrotum. Here's hoping the human race survives the events of the next four years.

Reading over the #ATProto specification out of curiosity and under the HTTP API it says "following REST semantics...", but then it's mostly RPC style POST requests with function names in the URL 🤨 https://atproto.com/specs/xrpc

Idly mocking up a POSSE microblog that I will probably never implement because of the rabbit hole it would send me down that I may never emerge from! #IndieWeb #ActivityPub #ATProto

The TikTok ban, the Musk Twitter takeover, the Facebook moderation policy changes, the Republicans’ rapidly intensifying crackdowns on speech... let these be the proof you needed to move anything you care about online to a space you control. Digital sovereignty is more important than ever.

@skylight.social We’re using atproto to build a TikTok replacement. We’ll continue to post updates on Bluesky! Follow along if you’d like to see the process and comment with any suggestions!

"Most people who attack or compete with you will be opportunists. So if the thing you're working on is your life's work, all you have to do is keep going, and eventually they'll drop away. Once several generations of them have dropped away you'll even stop caring about new ones." --Paul Graham

Great, now I get to pay extra for AI features whether I want them or not ✨

Every time our four year old daughter doesn't want to do something she now sings Revolting Children from Matilda the Musical, with a full dance routine. Thanks @timminchin.bsky.social‬.

Tech leaders are crowdfunding a #FreeOurFeeds campaign that will establish an independent public interest foundation to help standardise and build a second AT Protocol relay and "billionaire-proof" Bluesky.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has now launched its own antitrust investigation into Google search and advertising market dominance

Cross-posting to Twitter, Mastodon and Bluesky is becoming a bit of a chore. I stumbled across the POSSE principle in the Indie Microblogging eBook (https://book.micro.blog) and now want to self-host a microblog which is automatically syndicated to other platforms. #sideproject

I think it's interesting that even with the existence of Matter, Google see the need for Google Home APIs to provide a "single unified interface to manage and control" devices in the home https://developers.googleblog.com/en/build-the-future-of-home-with-google-home-apis/

Apparently "non-profit" OpenAI's internal definition of AGI is an AI system that can generate at least $100 billion in profits. Something is not right here... gizmodo.com/leaked-docum...
