Really depends, I know most of the quote unquote good publishers for indie devs have shuttered now and its just the grist for the mill types. If you got approached by folks then congratulations but I'd suggest not signing anything until you've done your due diligence.
The seem like a good company, even sent me a whole power point pitch but at the end of the day, it's a free game, I'm not interested in monetizing it further so I'm gonna probably turn it down
Nope. Never. As a solo dev, while I do enjoy sharing my work with others, it's not my driving force if you get my meaning. I don't want money or fame, I just want to be free to do my own thing. 😌But that's why I consider making games more of a hobby than profession. For me anyway. :3
Perhaps, but it probably just depends on the Publisher, really. To be clear, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to that question. We all have our own goals in mind. :3
Can confirm. Publishers generally don’t give a good deal unless they REALLY want your game and you have a shitload of leverage, whether in the form of money or clout. Which… if you had that, you wouldn’t need a publisher. Even then, they’re going to be looking for somewhere to stick the knife.
Ah this is what I was worried about. I've had some companies reaching out that seem credible but I found a lot of comments advising against signing with publishers as an indie and I don't know much about business stuff so I thought I'd get a vibe check to see if I'm crazy
They're businesses. They want to squeeze every possible penny out of you.
But there are some out there who want to act as a legitimate partner. Vibe check is good to see if they want a partnership, or if they want to take half your money to do almost nothing.

Which they wouldn't.
They'll want all the rights, they'll try to take half your money, they won't even have a marketing plan for you, they'll offer you nothing up front.

I would not sign with anyone who didn't have a plan for me, and could explain how they would double my revenue.
