While Canada is definitely 1000x the better country, I do wonder why Ukranians would come here now when we are under threat of US invasion.

Why leave 1 war-torn place to go to a country under threat of the same thing.

That was exactly what it was - an ambush by the convicted felon Trump and it was utterly abysmal to see. Proud to know and say that Canada will always stand with Ukraine.
