1. Parasite Eve is an absolute masterpiece. The idea of a horror jrpg is still such a great concept and I wish we'd see more. The music, the visual, the gameplay are a ton of fun! I briefly speedran this title in 2016 and to this day play it every xmas eve on Twitch!
2. Final Fantasy Tactics. I love the #finalfantasy series, but this one hits a different level of storytelling for the series. I am also a huge strategy rpg fan so I recognize the playstyle isn't for everyone, but I love how replayable this title is!
3. Secret of Mana. This game was my introduction to video games! I played together with my dad in co-op mode when I was 3 years old and to this day is a core memory for me. The story may leave a lot the imagination, but the art and music lives with me.
4. Mother 3. I played this game on stream right after my third daughter was born. I am so happy to have been able to share such a beautiful time in my life with this game. You need to experience it for yourself to understand. I've never had such a hard time saying goodbye.
5. Breath of Fire 3. I only played this earlier this year, but I had such a fun time! This game feels like a genuine journey with friends and really takes the foundation the first two games built, and perfects a system. Great jazzy OST and lots of beautiful pixel art!
6. SaGa Frontier. I picked this game up on a whim with some lunch money I had leftover in like 7th grade. I saw it was "SquareSoft" and figured it'd be a good time. Kenji Ito's music captivated me, but the odd non-linear gaming really scratch my brain. 1st LGBTIA+ story I ever encountered in gaming.
It's such a toss up for me between BoF 3 and 4 for best in the series. I think 4 has the better pixel art and animations (and battles because of it) but 3 just barely edges out the story.
