There’s so many scams going around! Last month a bunch of fighting game creators I follow got hacked through a docusign scam and lost their YouTube accounts for several weeks because of it!

I feel for a discord scam once years ago, getting contact from an acquaintance I talked to on occasion and somehow felt it was natural enough and wanted to play something and yeah… (and found out he was hacked prior to that)

It is scary.

Yah about 6 months ago this happened to someone I knew. They messaged me exactly like this and I kept saying “yah! So like. Remember when my mom made you that scarf?! The second one is ready! Call her now I’m with her” and he kept ignoring me and back to trying to scam me hahaha.

This was the account it directs you too and by the way there does appear to be a LinkedIn that matches this individual so it does seem legit, but also the VP wouldn't be taking DM's an answering them so fast.

They asked for a bunch of personal information none of which was information I personally had ever given Discord before so I said that seemed kind of odd especially with how responsive they were and pushy for that matter.

After said I was unwilling to give my personal information. They advised they would send me a link to change my password and gave me a generic password to input. The email did indeed appear to come from Discord, but as if someone was trying to log on and didn't have my password.

Shoutout to my pal @kimchimaek.com who knows all about this stuff he was able to confirm this is indeed a known scam going around. I instantly blocked them and received this email. Brother, is that a gmail account? lmao

Anyways, TLDR they are getting smarter about trying to get your information and pushy. If someone asks for your personal information/password NEVER do it even if the avenues seem legit (though these were not well done lol)

I guess Discord isn't on Bluesky otherwise I'd let them know too.

Any time I get contacted by anyone about hacked accounts or changing passwords, I immediately contact the customer support of the account in question. I never respond to any email or DM ever. Maybe that’s paranoid, but it works for me.

Oof, that slight of hand thing is so nefarious. Also folks should beware of anything that wants you to share an authentication code that you're sent by text or email. Because odds are, they're knocking at your door and hoping that you're not going to realize and let them right in.

This happened to me with my Steam account a few years back. Different service but same thing, they hacked into a friend's account, said I was reported, and tldr, they scammed me out of 300 bucks for crypto and took my account. Thankfully Steam support got it back but I lost that money.

Oh yeah I've had this scam try to get me. The first thing I do when I see this is I ask the person a question that we would know the answer to. 9/10 times, it completely stonewalls them, and they don't answer me. 1/10= they push past it, so I either ignore or repeat the question until they stop.

To add, I knew a buddy who got nailed with this years ago, which caused their account to contact me, so I reached out to a mutual friend who could get in more direct contact with the original account owner to let them know what happened while we reported their account. Happens on Steam too BTW.

Yeah I think I had one or two buddies of mine get nailed on Steam + a bunch of them get popped for it on Discord unfortunately, usually after long periods of inactivity as well. Discord's been getting inundated with that sort of thing like Skype used to be.

I came across this scam about last year. Luckily, I was informed by a friend beforehand that their account was hacked, so I was already on alert. 😭
