Steph swainston is another author who uses "this is a different planet with different history" as a plot element.

It can be an interesting jam on sci-fi/fantasy genre.

Even LOTR when you think about it must be a different world. Just not the important part!

I wouldn't say it's an important detail - compared with Brandon Sanderson's books where difference between worlds becomes explicitly part of the story, GOT you just get that it's not history and magic exists but there's still rules you're a bit familiar with.

I wouldn't lead with that!
