Really tough call, especially given that the cap is going up. I’d lean yes, mainly because he’s a homegrown player who his teammates like, and you need SOME veteran leadership around as the younger players mature. And, he’s been to a Cup Final with the Habs, so there’s some playoff experience, too.
They shouldn’t make this mistake again. They let Daunault walk, snd while Evans doesn’t have danault’s scoring touch, he’s a very good defensive centre, who is good on faceoffs snd and the penalty kill and is a huge asset on any team. Pay the man!
Yes. Evans and Armia are both UFAs and crucial to the Habs PK right now. If you let them both (and Dvorak) walk at the end of this season you essentially have to rebuild the PK from scratch. Wouldn't want a rookie or Suzuki taking on those duties.
Hang in there followers will come on this platform. You can’t pay a fourth line center $4M. If you project as your third line guy with 16-18 goals and 45-50 points, yes otherwise no.
Love Evans, cap’s going up … and as a general rule of life never give term to a 28-year-old role player who’s having a career year on a non-playoff team!
Took 3 years for Evans to take Danault's spot.
Will take 3 years for Beck to get there.
Then we should trade Beck cause Hey, Hage is going to be ready in another 3 years...
Sign Evans as #3 C and Beck can play on his wing next season, or #4 C.
Beck and Kapanen aren't anywhere close to where he is. We use to say trade Danault, Evans can take his spot. Now that Evans is finally there, we should trade him so that Beck takes his spot in 3 or 4 years ? How about keeping the very good NHL player that we are lucky to have ?
No. It'll be tempting. But at the end of the day he's a 4th line C on a contender. My guess. It won't take as much as that. 2.5mil x 3-4 will do it, if not hard pass.
Give it to the end of the season. The Habs are swimming in the sorts of draft picks you would get in return for Evans. Unless a team is offering up a 1st rounder or a serious prospect (which they would not) keep him to help the young guys. If he walks we can thank him on the video board next season.
He would have to come in under 4 mil and no more than 3 year term. With Devo coming off the books and maybe even Armia. This team takes another dip if it loses all three players mentioned. I hope he gets signed short term
What you said is probably true, in most cases, but Jake can be much more than a 4th liner. Winning teams need players like Evan’s, great defensively, excellent PK, who can also score. But, I also think he will be traded. But if there’s no 1 st rd pick on the table, keep him.
The age is about right. We need experience. The big thing with Evan’s is how much money he wants and what other teams will offer. If a 1st rd pick is on the table, he’s gone.
He's a 30 point player. Is that what a third line center should be producing? I don't know. He projects to get 51 points this season. I don't want to see another Dvorak or Anderson fiasco. Fools gold really sux when it happens.
Yes, 30 points is fine for a defensive 3C. His production rate per 60 at EV since 2021-22 compares well with other 3rd line centres with similar deployments (see chart below).
He won't get to 51 points, his current production rate is unsustainable.
I wouldn’t.
I think he’s having a career year and in a few years, when Montreal is ready to contend, that either Beck or Kappanen can become a Jake Evans anyways.
In addition, the return he will fetch should be good. A RC who can play good D, score and is paid little is valuable at the deadline.
I'm from the trade and then re-sign camp. My take is that Mgt will want to be in-the-mix for real next year and they can't do that with 2 rookie C's in the bottom 6...and question marks still around Dach as 2C.

Let Armia and Dvo go, keep Evans for the PK.
That being said, the followers you have here are real and appreciate you!
Thanks for posting on this platform.🙏🏼
At most I would go 3.5 x 3

Makes no sense.
