Adonis Blue (Polyommatus bellargus) - This dazzling butterfly is confined to the chalk and limestone grasslands of southern England.

Chalk Hill Blue (Polyommatus coridon) - At some sites many hundreds may be seen in August, flying just above the vegetation, searching for females.

Holly Blue (Celastrina argiolus) - Easily identified in early spring, as it emerges well before other blue butterflies. It tends to fly high around bushes and trees, whereas other grassland blues usually stay near ground level.

Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus) - The most widespread blue butterfly in Britain and Ireland. It can be seen fluttering close to the ground in a variety of grassy habitats.

Silver-studded Blue (Plebejus argus) - A beautiful but rare butterfly found on heathland, sand dunes and chalk/limestone grassland. It has undergone a major decline through most of its range and is classed as 'Vulnerable' on the Red List of Butterflies.

Large Blue (Phengaris arion) - One of the rarest butterflies in the UK, it was declared extinct in 1979 but has since been successfully reintroduced as part of a major conservation programme involving a huge partnership of individuals and organisations.

There used to be so many blue ones here in Costa Rica, but I can't remember the last time I saw one. Perhaps I don't live in the best place for them..at 3500 ft I'm the mountains.I do see a lot of yellow butterflies.
