Wikipedia: The Tripartite Pact, also known as the Berlin Pact, was an agreement between Germany, Italy, and Japan signed in Berlin on 27 September 1940. It formally allied the Axis Powers with one another, and it was directed primarily at the the US.
Don't underestemate the Japanese.. ask my family. Oh wait you can't given japanese killed some in their hellhole camps. Its why they only joined peace missions. But I cant fault the army for doing as they were told. War is ugly; and w/o us guarantees; even I can understand why they join the EU
Alliances around the world shifting in real-time. Clear that the USA can no longer be trusted under Trump (or even in the foreseeable future in the same way that the EU mistrusts Britain after #Brexshit).
I know the idea of this has been hotly debated in Japan, but I doubt any of the WWII allies thought that clause in the constitution would hold out this long.

They are probably the only non nuclear country that could whip up an ICBM in about three months, they have the technology just sitting around, so it’s nice to have them on our side.

Well done Japan! :)
