I'm looking to speak to people who have changed their names in some way to fit in or for others' convenience since moving to Ireland. Get in touch if this is you and you don't mind sharing your story. ππ½

As a child, I moved to Dublin from Belfast, where my name is pronounced Kier'n no matter how you spell it. Took me months to realise when people down here said CiarΓ‘n ("Kier-awn"), they were talking to me. Now, for the sake of an easier life, I just answer to both.
I was saying that America sucks so bad Iβd change my name to [something objectively stupid] to get out of here β not casting aspersions on your beautiful culture
I know it's not the same thing but a local employment officer suggested on my cv not using my not-typically Irish surname & revert to my very-irish maidenname 'to help my job search'
I didn't but I did hyphenate my surnames - it increased response rates π

I have an unhyphenated double first name and usually go by only the first one, but even then the way I pronounce it is different from most people's, leading to lots of corrections π€¦π»ββοΈ
