from one...or even a handful of experiences in their youth. The human brain has far too much neuroplasticity and the ability to adapt and create better meanings. We just need to stop and think a little more about the "spells" we cast with our words around young people.

Empowering kids means putting their experiences in perspective.
These "life ruining" childhood experiences are later used to conveniently explain why someone becomes a criminal... yet there are others, like
Dooming a kid's future by convincing everyone that they're doomed becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Bad people do bad things to kids in all kinds of ways but it seems like we only really freak out about sexual abuse. Not, of course, that we shouldn't, but is it worse than beating, neglect, etc?
Jane Seymour hosted break the silence, which had some great metaphorical
animation in the kids stories.
The kids I interviewed who were believed right away were by far the most empowered & comfortable about sharing their stories.
It made all the difference.
But often the damage is in the way the adults respond, in their effort to show their care.
