If you TRULY believe that Jesus Christ died to redeem all humanity and that all Christians are sinners who fall short of the standards of G-D, this really shouldn’t be an issue for you.

MAGA Christianity doesn’t threaten your salvation, only your reputation.

Because I honestly don’t see a net negative in admitting that there is a severe problem in your faith community. That’s literally the first step towards ANY GOOD.

This is absolutely true. I was raised in an evangelical church and can say nothing MAGA is doing now is out of character of what I was seeing and hearing 20 or 30 years ago. Racism, sexism, fear of the different, open hatred, were already central to that faith.

I think the urge comes from a place of hurt/ anger/ vengeance. Non-MAGA Christians get told all the time that they're wrong and maybe hellbound. It breeds the desire to turn around and yell back that THEY'RE the wrong ones, but it's neither persuasive to the other side nor helpful to their own.

What's hard for a lot of us is that the form of Christianity espoused by MAGA is utterly alien to us, so much so that it is hard to see it as Christianity at all. It's like they took our faith to a taxidermist and are wearing the skin even though it doesn't fit.

It's not totally the same thing but there are similarities to how you feel about Jews for Jesus. Ultimately I agree that we don't get to claim these people aren't Christians, much as I might wish they weren't. They are certainly Doing It Wrong, however.

I think there are some notable differences, in that Messianic Jews are explicitly a Baptist project to infiltrate and convert Jewish communities, and there were Christians using the Bible to justify the Atlantic Slave Trade so MAGA Christians aren't particularly new

Point taken. I suppose I could argue that MAGA Christianity (particularly the virulent abortion prohibitionism) is the result of a deliberate project by the far right to capture evangelicals since at least 1980.

I recently tried to explain to a loved one that Christian theology plays right into the hands of fascists, and I think the worst thing for most people is to admit that their belief system causes harm. They want to only see the good. It’s an entire crisis of identity, something ppl refuse to give up.
