And just today, I got a rejection letter in the mail from my health insurance company for a procedure I had done in the hospital over a month ago. I’m not saying that violence is ever justified, but I understand.

I had a small procedure approved and weeks after the fact I was copied on a rather hostile letter to my doctor basically asking for justification. I wasn’t responsible for anything, but thought it was interesting, especially after it was approved before the fact.
So glad we don’t have that stress here. Any doctor, hospital visit, test,
surgery is free don’t have to worry about rejection letters. All my cancer appts were free everything g associated with it free aftercare free and I’m currently waiting to get a new hip, also no charge
❤️ The anxiety related to worrying about whether or not your healthcare is going to be covered when you’re in a serious medical condition, can be debilitating in itself
I can totally understand that. I’m appalled at my most of my family members who have chosen the wrong side of history. It’s hard to teach someone empathy when they don’t have much or any practice in expressing it, if they’re open to caring more about others in the first place. 😒
I also got one for an out of network ambulance ride from United health care. But don't worry their 3rd party company negotiated it down for me! So instead of 2.5k it's now an even 1k. I hate it here.
However, given that 4 months ago, I spent 10 days in the hospital, and they didn’t even really know it was wrong with me, had a billion tests done, plus follow ups after discharge, and this is the first real rejection that I’ve gotten, I think I’ve been doing pretty good given their percentage.
The bill for my hospital stay—10 days, plus a biopsy, consultations with specialists, and a billion blood tests—was over $300,000. I paid zero. Because I was already over my deductible for the year. I consider myself very very fortunate.
I’m actually still recovering. Very, very slowly. I had a period where I got worse after I was discharged, and after more tests and new medications, I think I’m finally starting to recover. But it’s going to be a long road. I still have to take narcotics for the pain four times a day all day.
(after my fourth Covid infection, I developed complications. I have micro blood clots in both feet legs and ankles, my blood vessels aren’t working properly in my legs, and the pain is excruciating.) but I’m finally starting to see improvement, so I’m hopeful I’ll recover.
I hope you get it resolved. They want you to give up. I've been fortunate so far with claims. As far as that young man did they say he had denied claims? I know he had horrible back pain that can take your mind to dark places.
I don’t know anything specific about his case, other than he had the excruciating pain from his injury, and that following the surgery, he can’t be intimate. I don’t know if that’s from pain or function. I wonder if he wanted an experimental treatment to try to fix it and it was denied.
The procedure should have been covered if it was an emergency. Otherwise, your doctor should have gotten pre-authorization from your insurance company. Too many cracks to fall through. So maddening!🤬
The VA just sent me a letter a few days ago, settling a claim for a $600+ ambulance ride--I had the ambulance take me to the hospital after a car accident, where my mother hit a deer, and I hit my head and then got it stuck between the airbag and the passenger window. This was last December.
The FBI should seriously investigate the American for-profit healthcare insurance companies. Those who are responsible for denying coverage to policy holders, placing a higher value on profits over human life should be charged with murder.
I had pre-approval. My insurance co paid the day surgery facility, anesthesia but denied the physician fee. I fought it up the Medicare complaint path. Took months but I prevailed- The insurance told me just because they approved did not mean they had to pay
That is legal-speak. If the conditions are met, they will pay, i.e. if you canceled your policy prior to the procedure, they would not pay and things like that. Most people don't push back against denials. It will take time but go through bvb the appeal process, you will usually win.
I had all the pre-approval paperwork as did the physician. The Physician and the group he belonged to were in network which is why I pushed back- I was an auditor for a large hospital in my prior life ,the ins. fraud I have seen......
I once got pre-approval for a transplant clinic visit (out of network), so when the medical group later refused to pay, I told them that I had the referral letter in my hand. It literally said, "Status: APPROVED". They countered with, "That's just an in-office memo" despite it saying "REFERRAL".
I appealed. I won. They lost. I have loads of insurance denial stories. I always win. They should stop fooling with me and understand it's cheaper to just settle than to have me sue them.

The question is - is the cause just?
Health insurance companies rob, cheat, lie, destroy lives, and cause death.
Justified? You decide.

I’ve been on both ends: a US patient & a US hospital social worker.
I live in Canada now & I’m lucky to have free healthcare & work happier in the field. I still vote & fuck that guy 😕
Glad you are doing ok now.
Bizarre.
I went to leave blood for a test the other week.
