Protest changes the permission structure. It says fascists will not be allowed to proceed unencumbered. And if you didn't think there was anything to be done, a protest shows you many think otherwise.

I’m not against any kind of protest but I do worry it might turn off potential mainstream voters that could be persuaded to vote differently in the next election. I don’t know. Last year was devastating.
I used to think like this, but I have since realized it's very rarely the case.
Large protests might actually give some people "permission" to question what is happening. Like they won't feel like an outlier.
Just my opinion anyways.
Why it's important to keep it non-violent & refuse to be provoked. Need a mix of young & old, rich & poor, all walks of life. Off to a good start. I think these organizers have learned well from the mistakes of the summer of 22. Blocking commuters from getting to work makes no allies.
I marched in Boston today. It was an absolutely enormous crowd. Very high energy. All ages. Lots of families with small children. It was uplifting to be part of it, even in the cold pissing rain.
Some pundits argue that protests like this actually hurt the general 🗳️ President elections for liberals as it reinforces the mythology of chaos on the Left. Irregardless of what the Right is doing in front of our eyes now. After COVID, 34 convictions, sexual assault, 2024 voters didn’t care. 😕
That’s very clever. How do YOU think we should convince those 90 million voters who sat out last year’s election, and the 1.5 % voters who thought an adjudicated rapist/34 count felon/ 6 times bankrupt man who told us to inject bleach in our system to vote for good candidate?Calling people “stupid?”
I said “perceived.” The way those 1.5 % voters perceived Trump would be better for them than a Harris Presidency. I personally don’t believe that, but if you don’t change some of those minds 4 years from now you need to get the 90 million eligible voters the Dems couldn’t convince to vote. 🗳️
The pundits are shills for the wealthy. It's important to remember that always. They benefit from shutting down dissent.
If you read up on resisting fascism and tyranny, you learn that protest is necessary. Worrying about future elections is only a thing if we're allowed to have elections at all.
We lost last year to an adjudicated rapist/34 count felon/who told us to inject bleach in our system. Unless you’ve got a full proof plan 4 years from now I say listen to different opinions.
I’m was not implying any of todays rallies were chaotic. I was wondering based on people more knowledgeable than me if any big rallies would be perceived as “chaotic” no matter what the facts are by right wing nuts and if that would filter into the voters next year and on 2028.

Go look into civil action against liberalization & corporate bureaucratization in Japan in the 70s & 80s. You had salarymen, college students & day laborers creating siege walls & pelting riot cops with rocks & Molotovs, over stuff like the government seizing land or shuttering small businesses.
Only the media chose their words carefully. 'Thousands' protested, not tens of thousands. 'Hundreds' of protests across the country, not over 1000. Any mention that the aggregate mumber of protestors were in the millions? Words matter, and persuade. Or not
I won’t in any way compare the current situation in the US to that of Hong Kong in 2019 but I often about this line from 1000x Resist about the point of protests:
protests are for building momentum and for people to put their money where their mouth is. the more people show up and validate they aren’t alone in their anger the more momentum resistance build. how else has change against tyranny been achieved?
It’ll take one of these a month for the next year to stop what’s happening. I live in a far left community, and there aren’t one and 20 people who are willing to imagine the worst, even though they showed up today. Unless today continues, today was a catharsis, not a resistance.
So do you think these protests were a life and death risk to everyone involved, or do you think they were a risk free liberal parade? Maybe both somehow?

If you don't have guns or a militant wing, you will be ignored. But seeing how most of you sleep currently through a genocide, I think they'll safely ignore you. What are you going to do other than beg on your knees?

If you're considered about this, then dress neatly and bring a sign reminding people to vote.
Because all I see is you complaining.
Protests create connections, energize people and make them aware they're not alone.
Sick of these kind of "let's do nothing" posts.

Double win.
I found out I’m not overreacting.
I found hope.
I feel empowered.
