Watching 28 Days Later now that they finally put it back in digital. Sony did not even remotely try to clean this up. Quality is illegal cam recording level

I always wondered if there was anything at all that could be done to clean this up but watching it on DVD I think it's not possible. Like, yeah, but you would have to have a dedicated team work on the transfer and it would never be perfect.
there's probably nothing Sony can do about it. they shot a lot of that movie on 720p cameras and almost entirely digital. it was made for the DVD era & its kinda stuck there. especially as the particular style of it (poor low light and streaky motion blur) is so burned into the identity of the film
Honestly not sure what they could even do. It would need to be remastered frame by frame at the very least. The tech is only now getting where it needs to be for digital film to look cinematic.
Wonder how the Blu-Ray compares? Although I don't think it'd be much of a difference seeing as the highest quality it released in was 1080p, so the bitrate probably wouldn't be much higher.
As others have pointed out, the picture quality is intentionally terrible. It was shot with early digital cameras and is pointedly grainy and dirty. Sony may have taken it down from streaming/VOD because so many people complain about the picture quality thinking it's due to poor quality control.
Some films don't get the joy of looking good. It was shot on consumer grade film equipment in the early 2000s, it can't look much better than it already does.
always has been! I was worried about that though... maybe in the future if 28 Years does well in box office or around the time it comes out maybe we will get a remaster!
