Our 22 year old van broke down on 2/6 and we've had no income since. It's been in the garage for 3 weeks and we still don't know when it'll be fixed. We absolutely cannot afford 3 passport cards either.
I know, been there done that, but leaving everything behind also means finding everything (or a lot) new. I did - until my new country turned into something I don't recognize anymore compared to 30 years ago
Assuming that country may have been this one, on behalf of someone who actually believes in what America could have been, I'm sorry for those of us who are - or at least try to be good.
Gonna bring everything I have money-wise. It isn't much, but I work in healthcare & Germany needs healthcare workers.
I'm going to try contacting some places in a couple months to get some insight into what they need. If they need more before they can even consider it, that's what I'll work towards
Housing…fingers crossed you have an in. I was homeless in Germany between sublets, dealing with apartment ads where 200+ people showed up to view a single unit. Most landlords want to deal with locals (same situ when I lived in Prague).
WE ARE ABOUT TO PERISH IN A TRADE WAR AGAINST CHINA BECAUSE ELON MUSK SOLD TESLA PLANS TO BYD AND TRUMP IS STUPID ENOUGH TO HELP HIM FIGHT THEM OVER THE RARE EARTH MINERAL LOOTING HAPPENING IN UKRAINE .
And I will add that my fears in February were real. I spend $250 for an expedited passport and card. I'm a Spanish court interpreter. I had one client who was taken by ICE right outside the courtroom.
The National Weather Service has stopped providing language translations for its products — and experts warn that the change could put non-English speakers’ lives at risk when extreme weather strikes.
I hear you. It's devastating and cruel. I just read that the National Weather Service will no longer provide emergency alerts to non-english speakers. No Chinese, Spanish, French or Samoan..
There's no reason to stop providing alerts except for racism
I assume this is all connected to tRumps statement that the official language of America is English?
This has always been a country of racists. Klan was the inspiration for Nazis. When white people say "America First" just remember who popularized that term among them
As a man I can't tell you how big a sack of shit this bill is. The very idea that my wife is property insults her and that makes me very pissed. This could disenfranchise 69 million women from voting. But what they want is straight white men to be the only ones to vote.
I hope you're talking to other straight white men about how once the rich lock up power, they won't even need to please straight white men anymore. If one group is disposable, every group is eventually disposed of.
Also we didn't even talk about trans and gay people who are married. Or the fact that a tribal ids would not work. It affects so many I don't want to look like I have forgotten about them. This is a disgraceful pile of bullshit!
We haven't forgotten about anybody. But how they are adfected won't sway the minds of those who are capable of ignoring the pain of others. To be effective, we have to make men who are enjoying their privilege understand that they will also feel the pain, it'll just take longer to get to them.
All day talking to men and women and actually dissecting what this bill means. You are right so let's make that clear. I am under the impression that unless the government would like to pay for these forms of identification this violates the 24th amendment. However the scotus is not to be trusted.
Passports are good, but also make sure you have your entry paperwork in order (visas, customs, welcome letters etc). You generally can't just show up at the port of entry.
I've been here almost three months and I just spent the afternoon doing *more* visa paperwork.
The countries below require Visas, I’ve traveled abroad and my passport was enough, and I just checked it’s still enough. I’m not going to the countries below. 👇🏾
China
India
Russia
Chad
Iran
North Korea
Somalia
Venezuela
Yemen
Bolivia
Egypt
Vietnam
Cuba
Australia
They do. It gets sticky if you plan on being here for a longer stay, or need a work or student visa, etc. I'm still trying to make sense of it, but there's no going back. The genie is out of the bottle already.
In all the economic turmoil - manufacturers of oversized wallets - capable of holding not only drivers licenses and credit card, but also passports, birth certificates and immigration docs must have phenomenal sales.
Apply for the card version. It's $30 (plus $45 processing fee). That's $100 less than book & still proves citizenship. Many public libraries help with applications (take pics, send in documents). You will need birth certificate. (Can be ordered from bureau of vital stats in birth state).
I'm heading to Portland next week and get my mother's paperwork ordered. Once we both get the documents I'll head back up there and see if we can get the cards that someone said were cheaper.
The cards are less expensive, but you cannot use them for flying across a border, only driving or by boat.
Paperwork you need - proof of citizenship, proof of identity, and any documentation to follow the trail of name changes. So birth certificate, marriage cert, divorce decree, etc.
If your name changed after marriage and applying for a passport, you will need to provide your marriage certificate or other official document proving your name change. Do this as soon as possible, do not let them win.
At least these will be issued under this regime, and won’t be so triggering at checks or stops. Seems a good way for Richies to help others - a national fund to get current, proper ids for everyone.
Why won’t it be triggering? A lot of Americans including minorities, don’t have passports. They are all entitled to one and will get one. But they can still be very triggering for MAGAs.
I renewed my child’s cause it was set to expire during this administration. I heard his speeches. He said he’d destroy federal gov’t & their services. He didn’t lie that time.
Got mine, but unfortunately, I had to send original docs, and both my kids have my maiden name on their BC, so now I'm waiting for the originals back to express order, my girls'. I'm kicking myself for not doing theirs first 😢 Why original docs need to be sent is fricking ridic!
I tried to get a digital copy, but the app is buggy and I couldn't get it to recognize me. Plus, if I'm getting cuffed and they're going through my pockets it's right there, hopefully on bodycam.
Makes sense. Though, if you lose it or it gets stolen, then you have to go through yet another painful process. And probably they will charge you again.
True, which is why I carry my previous one. It's been punched, but the information is still the same minus the expiration. I'll try again with that digital one though :)
I've learned from an instructor/retired law enforcement officer that having your driver's license, concealed carry permit, auto insurance, and any other pertinent identification printed out onto a sheet that's been laminated is useful in case you need to hand over your information w/o spooking them.
Mine expires in 2026 and am worried it won’t be renewable, being a married woman who took my husband’s name. They will find ways to delay me getting it in time for the election.
Will add: some northern US states offers enhanced drivers’ licenses. These allow you to drive to Canada without a passport. May be a fast(er) option for some, and may be safe from EO 14168 for trans folk.
It’s interesting how many think it’s so easy to move to another country permanently. Even if you have the funds, they say it takes about 15k, most countries need you to have value to allow you to stay. You can’t just cross the border and be like yo I live here now.
That’s not true in many EU countries like Germany. You can be there 90 days without a visa at all then u just visit a neighboring country & restart the clock. Rent is cheaper in many countries & Airbnb will do long term rentals there. It’s doable in an emergency.
You can continue to collect your pension or SSA outside the country just have it deposited in an American banking acct. I’m just saying that in an emergency where you need to get somewhere safe asap it can work. Portugal for instance loves retirees in their country I know expats who retired there.
Yeah I can understand that. I’m a single parent but work remotely. It afffords me the ability to move freely where many wouldn’t be able to & many foreign countries will issue special visas for employees like me. I did some research though in case I were to lose my job & found many countries..1/2
Yes. It’s hard to go and live anywhere else. I’ve looked into it a few times and it’s by no means easy (unless you have money). I hope Australia blocks migration from registered Republicans.
Democracy is already dead. He's seized control and will ensure there's no fair and free election in the future, that's what Project 2025 was ultimately about. At this point there's no real way to fight back against it.
It's a little different though, given that noone is ready and willing to go to the lengths it took to combat slavery. We're at the point that democracy has been dismantled enough that no amount of protesting will work. At this point Trump doesn't even pay attention to legal judgements against him.
They are taking over the USPS, no more mail in voting, and if this Save Act goes through, anyone that has any changes done since their original birth certificates will NOT be allowed to vote!
I got mine renewed last year with my almost bald chemo head. I was very worried about not having a valid passport. Never changed my name when I married, now divorced😅.

Figure I can at least get a job with that and get closer to C1-C2 once I'm there.

I believe I read somewhere that democrats have more passports than republicans. If true than the republicans really want to lose their seats in 2026.
You can keep them on your phone that way
