I know it’s all for fun, but it’s really not helpful for some. Some are tourists whose grasp of English language isn’t great, amongst others. For a mode of transport that is supposed to be helpful for all, stuff like this is just not helpful.
Yup, it's awful. Britain is hard enough to navigate for foreigners as it is: understandably, our signage is monolingual, and also understandably, it uses British English and shortcuts rather than the evolving Global English elsewhere. This kind of thing will absolutely destroy comprehension for some
To make the point about how much bilingual signage is helpful even when neither language is your own, imagine how much more helpful a non-Welsh non-English speaking European is going to find a sign for Ysgol/School or Eglwys/Church than either monolingually.
I remember TfL doing it for Old Street tube station because marketing/sponsorship, amongst others. Think they also did Bond Street. The priority should always be the customer/passenger, not these gimmicks. Instead of paying for marketing, just reduce the fares by not having it.
