I appreciate a lot of your work, especially on social care and Brexit, but can I just say that as a non-parent and a human being, I found all of these things equally sickening. Why does being a parent make you feel these things more deeply? Rhetorical question, but hopefully you take my point.
As a human I entirely support this point and as a liberal I also support Ed’s point. Regardless of your familial situation this is an awful event so let’s focus on stopping a recurrence
You are, of course right, and all are sickened by this. I thought Davey's statement struck a better tone than those of other opposition leaders. He was putting the victims at the heart of it and showed empathy. I believe he's a good man.
I do too. And what he’s been doing so far is so inclusive. But giving it, what reads to me as, a hugely parental slant, isn’t inclusive to those of us who aren’t. And for a politician, an inclusive one, that can and should be improved on. He’s so good at the human bit - focus on that?
All political parties have a duty to learn for this distressing incident and work towards steps to prevent this happening again. Realistically there should be no party politics getting in the way of that simple goal.
Should the reform MPs apologise for trying to spread disinformation about this case and encouraging the riots?
Apologise to the families for trying to use the death of their daughters for political gain?
Why start with “As a father..”? Is someone incapable of imagining loss unless they are a parent? If you didn’t have children, would you simply not care?? Is that what you think - because it’s what you’ve said…
An excellent statement and it is extraordinary that BBC Chris Mason reports what Farridge and Badenough says in response to the Southport tragedy but does not report what the leader of third main party in British politics says.
Mason stuck in the headlights of the Alt-Right it seems.
Chris Mason is not a political journalist, he is a Tory/ Reform fan boy. BBC licence fee payers deserve better than this blatant, shocking right wing propaganda.
A balanced statement, when I see the MP for Southport has used the ULS.
We can’t prevent all future crime in an environment where this government continues policies that cut essential services and increase social inequality.
Home Secretary might talk about it making little difference to the fams.
Continuation of the cuts that drive social inequality is what the current government is doing.
The Home Secretary or Justice Minister needs to respond to ULS process, by noting he was 17 when he brutally murdered the girls & that no sentence will bring them back, or stop all other brutal murders.
But the cuts have been in place for 14 years under previous govt.
maybe this might make Labour rethink.
We will see this again and I think it will increase as social tech bosses allow these nutters to watch horrific things.

Home Sec can’t adequately resource to mend the wounds of Tory austerity, until Reeves stops demanding more for less too.
It’s a lovely early Spring day here, but next storm Monday.
We are all doomed!
