Super nervous about this. People are moochers anymore, especially large businesses. How will Obsidian sustain itself for us commoners if a large Fortune 500 business can now just come in and take your work without compensation?

I'd guess that Sync is paying the bills enough for them to see this decision as viable. (Perhaps Publish too, but I think Sync is a real must for a lot of folks)
For rapid growth, that's correct. But those users are usually a nightmare to deal with. Is it really worth it if you want to build a business that lasts for decades?
The answer is in the announcement. Obsidian has multiple revenue streams: Sync, Publish, Catalyst, and Commercial.
Obsidian is seven people and not trying to grow the team. Most orgs were significantly out of compliance and enforcement is impossible. This change permits what was already happening.
First off, thanks for all the work you put into Obsidian!
But if multiple orgs were not in compliance - aka already mooching, then I'm even more nervous about your relicensing decision. It feels like you're passively surrendering to these entities instead of evaluating all options available.

I get wanting to get more users onboard and grow the business, but free "customers" are the worst customers. Entitled, selfish, and verbally abusive.
IMO Sync - especially in the context of multi-player - has got to be a very compelling paid offering for team/corporate use

"Some of the largest organizations in the world, including Amazon and Google, have thousands of employees using Obsidian every day."
You should consider either legal threats or issuing breaking changes (sabotage them), not just throwing your hands up and giving up.
focus is everything.
