This makes me think of my favorite allegory for this sort of science denialism.

Imagine a pounding, drenching thunderstorm. A group of people huddle together, holding up umbrellas, edge-to-edge. As a result, even those too young or too infirm to hold an umbrella are kept dry.

This lasts years.

Louis Pasteur invented the process of making milk safe (what we now call Pasteurization) in 1862. That was 162 years ago. He did it because he witnessed countless people getting sick from a whole host of horrible pathogens, which some of them died from. And now here we are.
