Junior developer with awards. Either: flat out falsehood or delusion, or there was someone else on maintenance found and fixed, or the rest of the teams resolved issues quietly. Never having an edge case scenario, runtime compatibility issues, unexpected case in the real world... very improbable.

Does any software survive contact with the userbase? Sometimes it does not even survive compilation or contact with the ecosystem.
