I absolutely cannot stand cucumbers. Even if there’s a little bit in something I immediately can taste it. I do however love pickles (dill only, i don’t do the sweet ones). They don’t taste similar to me at all

There is a whole world of pickle flavors. Some sweet, some sour, some hot. Try different types, as there's a good chance you'll find one you like.

I would recommend eating them cold though. A warm pickle is not the best way to experience them.

And most have no cucumber flavor at all.

Also, the size of the cucumber affects the texture and flavor as well. A large dill pickle will taste different and have a different texture from a baby dill pickle.

Pickles don't taste cucumbery. But if your issue is texture, you won't like them. They taste sweet or acidic depending on the flavour, garlic/dill/spicy. I wouldn't try it with a huge Costco jar tho.

My big issue is that a lot of ‘pickle’ brands stopped labeling themselves as pickles. That one included but not a bad dill for $5 🌝

Yeah, I wouldn't have picked that brand for a first try anyway. A refrigerated one has a much better texture and taste, usually.

Personally I would not use jarred pickles as entry point - use fresh refrigerated pickles like the boar’s head in your local deli, or grillo’s which are usually near the refrigerated eggs and sauerkraut. They have much more crunchy texture comparatively. Or! Make your own w little salad cukes!

I find those to be gross and smelly, but the refrigerated ones are like bright and fresh, and I can taste the garlic and herbs used. It’s kinda like buying a can of pickled onions vs the fresh pickled ones you’d get on a good taco, you know? Just muddier flavors.

If you want some of the best pickles for your first try, go with Claussen. They’re cold in the deli section. They’re my favorite!

To me a good dill pickle tastes mostly of dill and vinegar. I also like cucumbers though. You could always try pickling other veggies yourself
