My dad took about 80 rolls a year for 30 years. This is encouraging, but it's all still really overwhelming. Can't even decide if I want to scan the negs or the prints. Getting everything inventoried and boxed up was a slog

I scanned the negatives where I could. I also sent it off to be scanned. It was pricey, but I knew I couldn’t pull off such a big project without it taking 700 years.

I've done/wish to do more videobiographical work in the future. Recorded a few family members, the rest either don't understand it or didn't want it done. I try to explain to the younger cousins that they will thank me when their dad ends up dying, they don't get it yet. But. It's my duty to help...

I’ve digitized tons of photos & videos of my family. I just did my sister’s who passed away nearly 4 years ago. I put them all on Flickr. I have over 55,000 photos there. I put all my videos on Vimeo. I’ve sent all my VHS and mini DV’s to Imemories who converted them to videos to download on Vimeo.

My mother has thousands of photos and I recently got her one of those batch photo scanners, and a flatbed for her larger photos. She's constantly scanning photos and texts me her favorites. It's great! Also brought home a bunch of photo albums home from the in-laws so we can scan them.

I have done both. And it is nerve wrecking to send. Ended up finding a place local to me in Chicago. It was perfect. They were nice and super well reviewed. Did amazing work.

I scanned a lot of slides and it came out crisp. But there is a lot of “yep. This is film”

Also, there are zero snapshots at night. I imagine cuz the cameras didn’t work well then.

I tried to do this at my mom’s house a couple years ago… but she physically cut my dad out of every photo after they got divorced. So it didn’t quite work out.

Should’ve scanned them earlier.
