Some of those people didn't understand what was going on or how Trump was using them. Trump's intent is clear though. He didn't pick January 6th in DC near the Capitol randomly. His intent was to use the mob to scare the VP & Congress into fraudulently altering who won the electoral college vote.

So on January 6th the VP and Congress go through the 50 states and DC and decide if they are going to count the electoral college votes or not. The only reason to not count the electoral college votes of a state is if you are an enemy of democracy.

Now again remember they consider each state in alphabetical order. So Alabama would be first, then the would consider Alaska, then Arizona, then Arkansas... And they only stop and separate and debate counting the electoral college votes if there's a written objection.

Now if there is a written objection, each chamber separates from the other and each chamber debates whether to count the electoral college votes of the state under consideration or not. For the state's electoral college votes not to be counted a majority in each chamber must vote to object.

However, for there to be a written objection on 1/6/21 (before the new law was passed), at least one member of each chamber had to agree to object to counting the EC votes in the state.
