why everything sucks online:
1) online ads used to pay for everything until companies realized that ads didn't work that well
2) the companies that owned the ad systems need something that makes money since ads are working less
3) the people making stuff still needed the money that ads gave them

When you do a search for a specific product, 5 advertisers are above the actual product for which you want information.
This ain’t right.
Advertisers,
These Ads are worthless.
Vendors need ads to promote products.
Advertisers bend to accommodate vendors.
Consumers need to use their purchasing power to bend vendors ala Target, Tesla, Amazon & Meta
The reason no one has money is because the money keeps getting hoarded by greedy people. These things can all be true.

If they'd just stuck with non-annoying & non-site-breaking ads, & lower engagement numbers, they wouldn't have inspired millions to deny them revenue.
#Greed overrides reason.
ads got worse for the end user because the ads that were not as bad for the user did not see enough reliable return on investment. the ad people decided to optimize for metrics that they thought would lead to better returns.
literally "repeat ad nauseum"
Greed caused bad advertisers to create the bad ads in the first place, essentially jumping up & down & screaming "PAY ATTENTION TO ME" for little return & much annoyance.
Then, because the numbers were a TINY BIT better, copycats.
The only point I was trying to make is that advertisers created their own problem.
it all boils down to advertisers trying to min/max ROI and leaving hell in their wake
optimizing is a symptom of incapability, not improvement
a drain that sucks itself off to the betterment of no one
and then traditional media had to follow suit. because ads stopped working
when the crash happens, that will happen, i think?
And the best the algos and AI seem to be able to achieve is to flood everyone with ads for shit they already bought yesterday.
Honestly they should all just put their money elsewhere.
he said he hated the ads on his site, and ad revenue on yt had been dwindling, so just recently he got rid of all ads on his site cuz his patreon had grown enough so his biz could run just off that
ad model seems to be sucking
love this dude

but that's long term, and those metrics are harder to quantify
then "ad networks" started trying to get into it, to spread out the targets of the ads, and the source of the clicks became facebook
"There are only two ways to make money for an online offering. Sell ads now. Or sell the promise of selling really well later. And only Google ever succeeded at the former."
But I think a lot of the sites propped up on the latter are having demands that they actually deliver.
Me: "What's that?"
E.: "You will receive daily and weekly offers usually, but sometimes you can receive special offers with 80+% on some items"
E.: 😵 "You will miss the best savings!"
Me: "I will save a lot of time not reading offers I probably don't care, when I need to buy something, I'll check what offers are available"
Me: "The only thing you cannot have back it's your time"
Greed knows no bounds.
