Thank god. The entire world was watching because we DO NOT want another MAGA country rampaging the entire planet. Not that the Canadian Conservatives would have done that, but there always was a risk. Now we know we have trustworthy allies.

Canadian here - I bet the "gov Carney" rhetoric will start ramping up tomorrow morning at say ohhh, 5:00 am. That's ok, we got our elbows up, and middle fingers up too!
This election is 343 local elections, and the elected members of Parliament will do a Vote of Confidence soon. If the LPC has a majority, that vote is straight forward. If they have a minority, they will need to negotiate with other parties to secure Confidence.
Trudeau governed by working with the New Democratic Party. However, the Bloc, NDP, and Conservatives theoretically could have agreed to vote in favour of someone else and toppled Trudeau.
There is ZERO chance the NDP would form a coalition with the Conservatives, fwiw. Carney will continue to be the Prime Minister, but it we'll see if it is majority or if he makes a deal with the Bloc and/or NDP.
He doesn't actually need to win the riding to be PM. It is a convention that the PM also be an elected Member, but it isn't as if he has to resign if he doesn't win a seat.

VERY smart move, Canada.
Bravo
The PM is always technically appointed by the Governor General, but must have the confidence of the House of Commons to actually do stuff.
That very nearly happened to Stephen Harper!
