Just a point to note: "In the Beginning - SCIENCE."
.
God didn't show up until a few billion years later to be given "Dominion over all life" (by Humans) .
It's legitimate to think they're might be a "whom" behind science. Intelligent design is a theory some subscribe to. There's just no evidence for it. And a huge industry of mythology that has helped some, but also done major damage. Scientific evidence stands without mythology.
It's an age-old question, and I respect anyone's effort to figure it out. It's also a reason why I respect anyone's right to practice religion. We were put here with incomplete info. I choose science.
My only issue is when you impose your religious views on me...or the state does.
IF God "made" science, then he/she set the physical "rules" and then JUST LEFT IT ALONE.
After billions of years (as far as we know) Earth developed. Then ~billion or so years later, LIFE happened. Another couple of billion before "Humans" developed.
"Science" (why don't you say "physical science"?) can't itself tell you whether to be a Fauci or an RFK Jr. There's a point where we must choose the transcendent, and that of the right kind. It has its own art, and a power of completion. Examine yourself for gratuitous, unnecessary incompleteness.
For those still throwing tantrums from their red-state childhoods:
Most moderate denominations gave up the Wienie-Roast concept sometime in the mid-century
Now opting for an abstract that emphasizes our OWN stubbornness not to accept a free invitation when offered.
With over 4,000 different religions in the world, that means that at least 3,999 of them were created by humans for their own personal power trip, the idea that just one of these religions isn't man made is even more remote as is the chance of picking the right one. So if god exists it is a gambler
Fucks sake. Go to a pre-k Bible school on a Sunday morning with the local 4 year olds. I agree with the initial statement, but everything that follows is false.
Curious why you would consider that someone saying the possibility of those things seems 'remote' is false. It's not saying the ideas are wrong, just that they seem unlikely. I've had profound spiritual experiences that suggest something completely different from those ideas.
Matthew 5:22
But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
Yes, all of this.
And the chances that a God who is all about unconditional love, deciding to cause people eternal suffering based on the choices they made in the snippet of time they got here on Earth, being the same dude.......just nope.
Repurposed stories passed down, written, rewritten, translated, politicized, translated again, politicized again, rewritten. Even the flood story was a clear ripoff.
The triune God of my faith has no need for human institutions. The church is there to help me figure out what to do with my own life, not to make me feel important. It is dangerous to overlay human government with a mantle of faith.
Your just trying to stir the pot. People in this country can believe what religion they want.
You can be a devotee to atheism. It don't matter. Leave them alone, they leave you alone. Everyone is happy.
The problem (*A* problem) is that, historically, those in power within organized religion tend not to “leave you alone”. Perhaps you’ve heard of a few incidents across human history.
Credit card companies don't leave me alone, banks don't, realty companies don't, pharmaceutical companies really don't. THATS industries that don't leave you alone. I've seen not one commercial trying to recruit me into a religion. No one approaches me or try to persuade me.
I'm not a devotee to atheism. I'm a devotee to freedom from irrational fear.
The specific objective of religion is they DON'T leave you alone. At best they build communities of believers. At worst: forced conversions, persecutions, theocracies.
8 people in Colorado were just set on fire because a Muslim man believed he was called to it by his religion. Crimes are committed in the name of every religion.
Forced conversions, forced adherence to religious laws, groupthink that leads to abandoning logic.
There are mentally insane in all walks of life. To find some violently ill people and then blame a whole group is your ignorance. Remember the term "going postal on him" a few ill people does not condemn the whole post office. There are a lot of great men working in the field of religion. Doing good

Its the religious who turned it into freedom of religion.

It's just hard to envision non-existentance...
Also, religion can be a huge $$$ maker!
I'm going to enjoy the time I've got, make things better where I can and go back to my stardust origins when it's time.
Rock on, Brothers and Sisters! 😍

…So, Catholic, or Bubba-tist? 🙄
I celebrate your freedom of religion. Have a great day!

100% fucked.

Science lets evidence do the talking.
